About Kris
For more than twenty years, Kris Barefield has devoted his practice to guiding families through some of life’s most serious and sensitive legal challenges. After beginning his career in corporate law, Kris found his true calling in juvenile practice, where he could make a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of children and families.
Kris represents parents working toward reunification with their children, foster parents and agencies seeking adoption placements, and families navigating complex custody matters. He also regularly assists individuals facing involvement with the Missouri Children’s Division, advocating for them in both court proceedings and administrative hearings.
In addition to his work with families, Kris represents and advises juveniles facing allegations of criminal conduct in the juvenile court system, providing young people with skilled and compassionate advocacy during a critical time in their lives.
Kris has successfully argued cases before the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court, and he has tried cases in twenty-two counties across Missouri. His work is driven by a firm belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow and thrive in a safe, supportive environment.
